Why I’m Taking a Break Before a New School Year
Today, I decided to take a break before a new school year and give myself a little time to slow down and recharge.
Summer went by much faster than I expected. Looking back, I’m grateful for the time I had with my children. I spent many days cooking their favorite meals, making sure they had something warm and delicious to eat, and driving them to and from summer camp.
These may seem like ordinary things, but they mean a lot to me. As a mother, I truly value the little things I can do for my children. Life gets busy, and children grow up so quickly. Being able to care for them, cook for them, and simply be there for them is something I never want to take for granted.
On Monday, I will return to work and begin another school year.
I have to admit that I feel a little nervous. Every new school year brings new students, new responsibilities, and new challenges. There is always a period of adjustment, no matter how many years I have been teaching.
Still, I’m trying to enter this new season with a positive mindset.
I hope everything will go smoothly. More than anything, I hope my new students will be kind, respectful, and willing to learn. A classroom feels completely different when students come in ready to grow, ask questions, make mistakes, and keep trying.
For today, though, I don’t want to think too far ahead.
I want to enjoy this quiet moment before everything becomes busy again. I want to appreciate the summer memories I made with my children and give myself permission to rest.
Sometimes taking a break is not wasting time. It is simply giving ourselves a little space to breathe before beginning again.
Summer may be coming to an end, but I’m thankful for how I spent it.
And now, I’m ready to welcome a new school year—one day at a time.
One of the simple things I enjoyed this summer was making homemade meals for my family, including these easy oatmeal pancakes for a simple breakfast
